Emotion Video

For this assignment, I chose to go for a sad, melancholic and lonely emotion. Those are the same emotions I chose for my pictures.

Photos

For the emotion that I picked, I went for a more melancholic/lonely feeling. I felt that this emotion could be easy to portray with the right setting, and the setting I chose was IUSB on a Friday afternoon. As I walked through campus, I barely saw people walking around. I figured that it would be a good chance to portray the emotion I chose. I also did some editing to the pictures. Adding filters and shadows so that they can show the emotion I am trying to portray.

Video Analysis

The music video that I have decided to analyze for this term was a video I remember from 2007 (or maybe 2008 ) named: "Long Road to Ruin," by the Foo Fighters. One of the reasons I chose this Video was because I really enjoy this band and the work they have done. I also chose this vide because of the style it follows.

The story of the is about a singer, who has decided to take on a career that he has not taken on before, acting. The video shows the kind of problems he faces because he was somewhere where he did not belonged. The struggle is mostly noticeable when interacting with other actors, since they hated him. During this time, the protagonist also falls in love with an actress who had no real interest into him whatsoever. In the soap opera they were filming, they are actually in love, which might be reason why the protagonist felt that they were meant for each other. Eventually he realized that she did not cared for him which led to him killing himself for not been capable to take the pressure.... spoiler....

The way this video is narrated is one of its strong points. It shows what he has to deal with everyday and how his life is miserable, yet he always wears a smile whenever he goes to the public eye, as if he had everything he wanted. Not only that, but they also managed to show the moments they were making the soap opera by adding a filter effect to the video, which gave it an old tone. When they were rolling camera, a warm filter would come up, however, sudden confrontations between the actors would occur making them cut the production and the the camera would return to a normal look.

In terms of camera movement, it varied between steady and hand held. like in the majority of movies, the reason of the camera movement was to show action in each scene. During the filming of the soap opera, the shots were steady.

I personally enjoyed the video and I considered that the way that this story was told was very appropriate for the song.
