3rd Documentary source

3. For my third source, I decided to ask a close friend of mine about what kind of job does he do inside a  bag factory. His name is Gerardo Quiroz and I met him a long time ago in Mexico. He is the reason I am currently living here. He is the reason why I am currently enrolled in a school like this one and because of that, I will always consider him a close friend and even a family member of mine.  He has lived here on Indiana for over twenty years and has managed to set a good life here. Some of the questions I would ask would be:

How long have you been working at your factory?

Ask on detailed the process of how they produce bags (What do you do at your job?)

Do you like it?

What is the best part of this job?

The worst?

Have you yourself considered other job possibilities?

Has there been big struggles with this kind of job?

How important is your role in this factory?

Do you see yourself here in a far future?

What is you inspiration everyday to wake up at 5am and go do what you do five days a week?

2nd Documentary source

2. I chose a person I knew when I got here, to Indiana, for the first time seven years ago. Her name is Angelica Zamora and she is the proud owner of her private business "Imagen Latina," A beauty Salon. The reason I know her is because my mom currently works with her as a hairstylist. Angelica helped my mom by giving her a position along side her a little after my mom just got her from Mexico. Today, her business is strong in the town of Goshen. Some of the questions I would ask her would be:

When did you opened your business?

How many people on average go to the salon on a day?

How did you managed to open you business?

Did you picture yourself in this current situation a long time ago?

What has been the best part of this business?

What has been the worst?

What was your inspiration to do what you do today?

Do you like what you do? Do you enjoy doing the same things every day?

Did you managed to accomplish this by yourself? Who was there to back you up with this project?

Where do you see yourself in a far future?

1st Documentary source

 1. For the first person I decided to interview was a counselor who works here on IUSB. Her name is Cynthia Murphy and she has worked as a counselor at IUSB for more than ten years. Her job is to help students on campus with any doubt they have in terms of financial aid, events, and classes in general. She also is a person who encourages students from various parts of the world (specially the Latino community) to keep a career and stay in school in order to obtain a proper major in order to find a job. Some of the questions I would ask her would be:

How long have you been with IUSB?

How did you found out that you wanted to help students to achieve a career?

Could you tell us approximately how many people have you helped in your career?

To you, What is the best part of your job?

Will you be willing to it for the rest of your life?

What kind of activities do you find yourself most involved into?

Do you remember the first time you helped someone the way you do now on a daily basis?

Is there a specific reason why you help the Latino community the most?

What is the most common reason a student looks for you?

Where do you see yourself in a far future? Will you be doing what you do today?

Emotion Video

For this assignment, I chose to go for a sad, melancholic and lonely emotion. Those are the same emotions I chose for my pictures.

Photos

For the emotion that I picked, I went for a more melancholic/lonely feeling. I felt that this emotion could be easy to portray with the right setting, and the setting I chose was IUSB on a Friday afternoon. As I walked through campus, I barely saw people walking around. I figured that it would be a good chance to portray the emotion I chose. I also did some editing to the pictures. Adding filters and shadows so that they can show the emotion I am trying to portray.

Video Analysis

The music video that I have decided to analyze for this term was a video I remember from 2007 (or maybe 2008 ) named: "Long Road to Ruin," by the Foo Fighters. One of the reasons I chose this Video was because I really enjoy this band and the work they have done. I also chose this vide because of the style it follows.

The story of the is about a singer, who has decided to take on a career that he has not taken on before, acting. The video shows the kind of problems he faces because he was somewhere where he did not belonged. The struggle is mostly noticeable when interacting with other actors, since they hated him. During this time, the protagonist also falls in love with an actress who had no real interest into him whatsoever. In the soap opera they were filming, they are actually in love, which might be reason why the protagonist felt that they were meant for each other. Eventually he realized that she did not cared for him which led to him killing himself for not been capable to take the pressure.... spoiler....

The way this video is narrated is one of its strong points. It shows what he has to deal with everyday and how his life is miserable, yet he always wears a smile whenever he goes to the public eye, as if he had everything he wanted. Not only that, but they also managed to show the moments they were making the soap opera by adding a filter effect to the video, which gave it an old tone. When they were rolling camera, a warm filter would come up, however, sudden confrontations between the actors would occur making them cut the production and the the camera would return to a normal look.

In terms of camera movement, it varied between steady and hand held. like in the majority of movies, the reason of the camera movement was to show action in each scene. During the filming of the soap opera, the shots were steady.

I personally enjoyed the video and I considered that the way that this story was told was very appropriate for the song.

Projects For The Semester

At the moment, I am still trying to think of the possibilities of what I can do for the videos for this class. I am still unsure of what kind of direction I would like to take in a film. As I mentioned in my previous blog, Christopher Nolan is my favorite director, however, doing something in the style he directs would not be a good direction for me to try. I feel that if I was to try to do something similar to what he does, not only would I confuse my audience, but also my crew and, as a matter of fact, I would confuse myself as well. If I was to follow Guillermo Del Toro's footsteps, I would feel the necessity for some heavy CGI, something I do not know how to produce and something that would take a lot of time and money as well. Maybe if I was to try to direct my own films, I would most likely try to hit the genre of comedy, not saying that I am good at it, but I am willing to give it a shot. I had some ideas for my future projects, however, I still struggle a little bit by finding something that I would find confortable to film.

Idea #1: This is an idea I had for the narrative story. It would involve the story of a regular student who is having difficult time finishing a project before time runs out.  It would have a regular setting on campus and a voice over narrator who would read out loud all the action of the character. I was also thinking of breaking the fourth wall and have the protagonist interact with the narrator from time to time.

Idea #2: An early idea would be to ask permission to my previous bosses from my old job to do a documentary about the place. They own a movie theater and it has been there since 1994. I found it to be a successful business for them. I think it would be worth it to ask their permission to see if I can do something with them.

Currently I am having difficulties finding the right music for a music video. I still need to find some music that is okay for me to use in a video and me liking it as well. I would also like to do a theme related to that song. I usually listen to rock, pop, and electronic as well.

As time progresses, I feel like I will have more ideas of what I want to in the future, but for now, I will rely on this ideas I have. I also need to ask permission to my boss if it is ok to do a small documentary about his theater, I just hope he says yes.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Daniel Hernandez and this is the first time I ever wrote in a blog. I come from Puebla, Mexico and I really enjoy media in all aspects. Movies, music and video games are my favorite kind of media and ever since I can remember, they have been a part of my way of living. As I began to go deeper into each kind of media, I began to appreciate certain pieces of media to a point that I consider them some of my personal favorites.
Favorite movies: Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy, The World's End (2013), Interstellar and Pacific Rim.
Favorite TV shows: Breaking Bad, Arrow, The Flash, The Simpsons, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and its continuation: The Legend of Korra.
Favorite Directors: Christopher Nolan, Guillermo Del Toro and Edgar Wright.

In general, I am interested in making media because all kind of media has been a big impact for my world. It makes me feel certain emotion that I enjoy feeling. Media to me is also a small scape from reality. When feeling under pressure I sometimes turn off my brain and either listen to music or watch a movie and simply give my self a break from all the other activities I have to do, and if media makes me feel this way, then I would love to the same thing for other people, to give them a small break to make them feel more comfortable or less stressed.
